# How do AI credits work?

AI credits are a **balance available in your account for using Genially AI features.** They are shared by the whole team and can be used freely: you can spend them all on one AI feature or spread them across different features.

  

In this tutorial, we’ll answer the following questions:

*   How many credits do I have?
*   Where can I check my credits?
*   How many credits does each AI feature cost?
*   What happens if I run out of credits? How can I get more?

  

## How many credits do I have?

With a Genially account, you’ll have **plan credits.** The number depends on your plan type and the number of seats you have. They renew automatically with your subscription or annually (for free plans).

_For example: a Genius team with 5 seats will have 25,000 credits to share among all team members, including students._

  

You can also buy or earn **extra credits**. They don’t expire and are used once the plan credits have run out.

  

**Note:**  
The AI credits system was launched on February 2nd, 2026. If you already had an active plan, the credits were assigned proportionally. In other words, according to the time remaining on your subscription. At your next renewal, you’ll receive the full amount.

  

## Where can I check my credits?

If you’re the team owner or administrator, go to **Settings - AI credits**. From this panel, you can view and download information about:

*   Available plan credits and extra credits.
    
*   Team credit usage, both overall and by person.
    
*   Credit history: purchases, rewards, and renewals.
    

  

Anyone on the team can view the credit counter **from the editor by clicking the AI icon.** From there, you can also check the credit cost for each feature.

## How many credits does each AI function cost?

Using each AI feature will consume the following credits:

The credit cost may vary depending on the provider and tool updates. However, you’ll always be able to see the actual cost when you use the feature.

Keep in mind that if the result doesn’t meet your expectations, the credits used won’t be refunded.

  

## **What happens if I run out of credits? How can I get more?**

Don’t worry, we’ll let you know before you run out of credits. That way, you can plan until the next renewal or choose one of these options:

*   **Upgrade your plan** to automatically get more credits and access more AI features.
    
*   **Buy more teacher or editor seats** to multiply your AI credits. _Credits will always be added proportionally to the time remaining in the billing cycle._
    
*   **Buy extra credits.** Premium plan owners and administrators can buy extra credits whenever they need them. They don’t expire and start being used when the plan credits run out.
    
*   **Recommend Genially to other people**. You can earn up to 1,250 extra credits per year!
