If you’re looking to jazz up your content, celebrate achievements, and surprise your audience, we have just the thing: add an Effect!

In this tutorial we’ll show you how to activate an Effect:

1. [When users click or hover on an element such as a button or image](#How-to-activate-an-Effect-when-an-element-is-clicked-on)
2. [When a timer or countdown ends](#Activate-an-Effect-when-a-timer-or-countdown-ends)
3. [When changing pages](#when-changing-pages)

The available effects are Confetti, Balloons, Hearts, Broken Hearts, Rain, Fireworks, Applause, Bubbles, Disagreement, and Oh no.

Effects can be [triggered with Click or Hover](https://help.genially.com/en_us/how-to-trigger-interactions-on-hover-and-click-ry46CpKcg).

## How Effects work in Genially

Before showing you how to add Effects, we’ll explain how they work:

* **Settings**: They can be combined with other interactions such as open window, view tooltip, play audio, go to page, open link, full screen, reveal, and hide. However, you cannot add multiple Effects to the same element.

* **Visualization**: Each Effect is visual, animated, and full screen. It remains visible, even when changing pages.

* **Duration**: It disappears after 3 seconds.

* **Interaction**: It cannot be paused or closed. While it is active, it is possible to interact with other elements in the creation. If other actions are configured on the element, the Effect will be triggered along with the other interactions.

* **Download**: It is not compatible with PDF, JPG, or MP4 download formats as in order to activate an Effect, there must be an action that triggers it.

* **Video navigation mode**: It plays like all other interactions.

## How to activate an Effect when an element is clicked on

1. Use the left side menu to add an element to the canvas, such as a button, icon, image, or text. Click on the element and select **Add Interactivity** or **Add another action** if there is already interactivity applied to it.

2\. From the right side menu, choose the **Effects** option. Click on **Save**.

3\. All set! You can add another action if you like as they are all compatible with Effects. Preview it and see how it works by clicking on the element.

In the left side menu of **Interactive elements** you’ll find **Stickers with effects**, a catalog of resources with the corresponding preconfigured effect. The effect is activated when the sticker is clicked on. Choose the sticker you want to include in your creation and customize it: combine it with other interactions, remove or replace the audio, edit the image, or replace the sticker with an image, GIF, or illustration from the Genially library, or upload an image from your device or a link.

## Activate an Effect when a timer or countdown ends

1. Add a timer or countdown from **Interactive Elements** in the left side menu.

2. Click on the element. From the right side menu, select **Add another action**. From the drop-down menu, select **Effects** and choose which one you want to use.

3\. All set! The Effect will be triggered as a result of the timer or countdown ending. If you want, you can add another compatible action to also display when the counter reaches zero, or remove the default audio.

## Activate an effect when changing pages

1. Use the left side menu to add an element to the canvas, such as a Next or View More button. Click the button and then on **Add Interactivity**.

2. From the right side menu, click **Go to Page** and select the desired page. Click **Add another action, Effect**, and select the effect you want to activate when your audience changes pages.

3. All set! You can add another compatible action like View tooltip or Open Link. Present and watch the effect activate when you move to another page.

If you need engagement data, or are simply curious, you can see the interactions that the element that triggers an effect receives. You can check who has viewed it or how many times it’s been viewed, for example.

Now you have all the info you need to get started with Effects! Play with different options and see how they improve your audience’s experience with your content. Triggering no-code Effects is a super easy way to impress and engage your audience.
