Knowledge is power — Sir Francis Bacon said it first, and he was right. You probably already know that analyzing statistics and understanding your audience’s behavior is key to improving your content.

Thanks to the **Activity** **module**, you can dive deep into the **global metrics of your Geniallys**. Check out [this page](https://app.genially.com/plans?from=helpcenter) to see if your plan includes this feature.

In this tutorial, we’ll explain in detail:

* [What global metrics you can view](#What-global-metrics-can-you-view)
* [How to collect global metrics](#How-to-collect-global-metrics)

* [How to download global metrics](#how-to-download-global-metrics)

## What global metrics can you view?

In the Activity section, you can access global metrics, [individual tracking data](https://help.genially.com/en_us/how-to-get-individual-tracking-data-in-genially-HJnsiwB3j), and [responses](https://help.genially.com/en_us/how-to-get-data-on-responses-to-interactive-questions-in-genially-rkVVWksZx), where you’ll find a wide variety of insights to analyze how your content is performing.

Under **Global activity**, you can find data to analyze the overall impact of a Genially, identify engagement patterns, or measure the success and performance of an interactive experience.

But as Jack the Ripper would say: let’s go step by step. These are the global metrics you can access on the platform:

### **Overview of global metrics**

These metrics will only be collected if the Genially has been published, tracking has been enabled, and your subscription remains active.

When you access the Activity module, you’ll see that you can filter the dates for the data you want to analyze. By default, the selected date range goes from the Genially creation date to the current date, but you can choose any dates within that range. Data is grouped and displayed according to the UTC time zone (Coordinated Universal Time).

Here’s the data you’ll see:

* **Visits:** Number of times your Genially has been viewed. A visit is counted each time someone clicks the URL/link to access your Genially.

* **Unique users:** People who viewed your Genially (counted only once).

* **Average progress:** The average percentage (%) of pages viewed by each person.

* **Average time spent on the Genially:** The amount of time spent in the Genially, from opening it to the last interaction.

* **Average interactions per person:** Number of times someone clicked on an interactive element in your Genially (questions, decision points, or widgets). Clicks on elements with the **On click** and **Mouse over** animations are also counted as interactions.

* **Bounce rate at the beginning:** Percentage of people who don’t move beyond the first page.

* **Insights:** A series of conclusions generated by the tool after analyzing the data.

* **Daily visits:** Number of daily visits your Genially has received. To see the number of visits for a specific day, hover your mouse over the graph line at the desired date.

* **Activity heatmap:** A section where you can see activity peaks in the Genially by day and time, as well as responses or first access activity.

* **Visits per page:** Total number of times a page in your Genially has been viewed. **A visit is counted every time someone changes pages**, even without interacting with the page elements. Hover over the graph data to see a thumbnail preview of the corresponding page.

* **Interactions:** This metric measures how many times your audience interacted with each interactive element in the Genially. This section also includes data such as the page with the most clicks and a click ranking for different elements.
When you apply the **Show label** interactivity, every hover or click on the element will be counted.

* **Main content path:** A section where you can visualize the journey your audience takes through your content page by page, including visits, branches (if any), and data. Ideal for identifying where users move forward, stop, or change direction.

## **How to collect global metrics**

Next, we’ll show you the steps to enable tracking for a Genially.

First things first: to start collecting data, your Genially must be [shared](https://help.genially.com/en_us/how-to-share-your-genially-creations-rkXUqDH2j). You have 3 options to enable tracking:

From the **dashboard**:

1. Log in to your Genially account.

2. In the left-side menu, click **Activity**.

3. You’ll see a list of all your Geniallys. Enable the **Global** option for the Genially you want to track.

From the **Genially thumbnail**:

1. Go to the space where you saved your Genially.

2. Click the three dots in the bottom-right corner of the Genially you want to track.

3. Select **Activity**.

4. In the **Global** tab, click the blue button to enable it.

From the **editor**:

* Click the **Activity** icon in the top-right corner of the editor.

*   Enable the **Global** option.

Remember: data can’t be collected until you share your Genially.

**IMPORTANT:** You need to enable data collection individually for every Genially you want to track.

## **How to optimize your Genially to collect global metrics**

Here are a few tips to make it super easy to visualize and identify your Genially metrics:

### **Name the pages in your Genially**

To know which pages your audience is viewing, you’ll need to give each page a name. Keep in mind that this name will appear in _Global_, so make sure it’s easy to recognize and clearly describes the page.

To name pages:

1\. **Click the page** you want to name.

2\. **Select the current page title** and delete it.

3\. **Type the new name** for the page — done!

**TIP:** From the _Activity_ module, you can preview the Genially or even open the editor if you need to rename pages. Hover over the thumbnail at the top of the page and click the pencil icon to edit the Genially or the preview icon to preview it.

### **Name the elements in your Genially**

Every element with interactivity applied is tracked. Naming the elements you want to identify in the **Activity** module will make analysis much easier.

The only elements you can’t rename are text elements, but you’ll still be able to identify them in the graph because the first word of the text is displayed.

To assign a name to an element:

1\. In the editor, select the element you want to rename.

2\. Open **Designer mode**. To do this, click the hamburger menu in the top-left corner and select **Show > Designer mode**. You can also use the keyboard shortcut **CTRL/CMD + M**.

3\. Click the **Layers** tab in Designer mode. A list of elements will appear, all named according to their file type.

4\. The selected element will be highlighted in the list with a lighter background. Double-click the displayed name and type the new name you want to assign. (Max. 15 characters).

5\. Press **Enter**.

## **How to download global metrics**

You can download global metrics in CSV format. This is especially useful for detailed analysis of user interactions and for creating custom reports.

To do this:

1. Go to the space where you saved your Genially.

2. Click the three dots in the bottom-right corner of the Genially you want to track.

3. Select **Activity**.

4. In the **Global** tab, click Download CSV.

That’s it!
