Who wouldn’t want to know how their audience interacts with their creations? **Effective communication** should always go both ways, and having insights into how your audience behaves inside your creations is pure gold.

At [Genially](https://genially.com/), we know that. That’s why we want you to get the most out of this information. You know what they say: knowledge is power. Check out [this page](https://app.genial.ly/plans?from=helpcenter) to see whether your plan includes this feature.

In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to analyze participants’ answers to your interactive questions.

## How to enable individual tracking

To start collecting information about how your audience interacts with any of your creations, you first need to [share your genially](https://help.genially.com/en_us/how-to-share-your-genially-creations-rkXUqDH2j) and then activate the option by following these simple steps.

From the **dashboard:**

1. Log in to your Genially account.
2. On the left side of the screen, click **Activity**.
3. You’ll see a list of all your creations. **Enable** the **Individual** **option** to start collecting data.

From the creation **thumbnail:**

1. Open the space where you saved your genially.
2. Click the three dots in the bottom-right corner of the creation you want to monitor.
3. Select **Activity**.

From the **editor**:

1. Click the **Activity** icon located in the top-right corner of the editor.
2. Enable the **Individual** option to access data and see how your audience interacts with your content.

Heads up: even if you enable data collection, activity won’t be tracked until you share your creation.

## How to customize the access screen

If you’ve enabled Individual tracking, you’ll see an option to identify who’s accessing your creation. This allows every person visiting your genially to enter their name, email address, or a number before accessing the content.

This way, you’ll get personalized information about each user’s activity if you’ve included [interactive questions.](https://help.genially.com/en_us/interactive-questions-on-genially-H1_tCj1en)

You can customize this access window however you want. Here’s how:

1. In your creation editor, click the **Activity icon at the top.**
2. Enable the **Individual** option.
3. You’ll see the **Identify who accesses** option appear. Select it.
4. Two options will appear: Alias or name, Genially account.
5. With Genially account, the user will appear in the Activity section with the name from their account. If you select alias or name, you can customize the access screen.
6. If you choose the Alias or name option, click the Customize button.
7. A modal will open with different options:
    * **Designs:** choose from 5 options depending on your needs and the theme of your creation: Standard, Corporate, Educational, Gamification, and Pixel.
    * **Behavior**: select how users can identify themselves: by name, email address, or number.
    *   **Full screen**
    * **Generate** **alias** **automatically**: available with the Free text answer type.
    * **Styles**: set the colors or typography you want for the access screen.
    * **Content**: write the messages that will appear on the access screen.
8. Choose the options you need, click Apply, and you're all set. To access the content, people will need to identify themselves using the screen you've customized.

We recommend asking your audience to always enter the same username or alias when accessing the content. That way, data will be collected under the same user and you'll have a complete view of each person's behavior in each of your creations.

To make it easier, the browser keeps the same username or alias. This means tracking data will continue to be associated with that username or alias whenever they view your creation from the same browser.

**Heads up!** If you decide not to request this identification, users will be able to access the content without identifying themselves, and their answers will appear in your Individual activity panel linked to preset names generated by the tool (U\_ followed by 5 random digits).

## What information will I receive?

Great question! Once the **Individual** option is enabled, you’ll start receiving information directly inside Genially — no external tool integrations needed. Pretty great, right?

The information updates lightning fast. You can also filter by dates for more detailed tracking or use preset filters to display information from the last 7, 30, or 60 days.

**Heads up:** data is linked to the username each person uses to identify themselves. That means information will only update correctly if they always enter the same username or alias when viewing your creation.

Here’s the data you’ll receive:

* **User**: the username or alias each person enters on the initial screen to access your creation. This allows you to identify their answers and metrics.
* **Total accesses**: shows the number of times that person has opened your genially.
* **Total duration:** the total amount of time the person has spent inside your genially across all visits.
* **Pages viewed**: shows the number and percentage of pages viewed compared to the total number of pages in the genially.
* **First access date:** displays the date when that user first accessed your genially.

Did you include any interactive questions in your creation? If the answer is yes, you’ll be able to see your audience’s answers in this section. Check the Answers box to filter and display only the results related to the questions you added.

## Download the information

You can download data related to your audience’s activity (pages viewed, total duration, and more) in CSV format. This option is especially useful for carrying out detailed analyses of user interaction and creating custom reports.

**Tip:** before downloading the file, you can remove any entry from the table to avoid downloading test data or information you don’t need. Keep in mind that this action can’t be undone.

Here’s how to do it step by step:

1. Go to your dashboard and hover over the genially.
2. Click the three dots that appear.
3. Select Activity.
4. Then choose the Individual option.
5. Select the date range. The metrics for those dates will appear. Heads up! By default, the time range shown goes from the day the genially was created up to the current date. Then click the Download CSV button.

All set! Fast and easy.
