The more people can access your creations, the better, right? When creating a Genially, it’s essential to think about your whole audience. There are some very simple things you can do to make your creations more accessible. **Make sure your ideas reach everyone!**

  

## **Guide to Making Your Geniallys More Accessible**

### **1\. Add Alternative Text (Alt Text) to Images and Resources**

You can add alternative text to most resources in your Genially, such as icons, images, charts, and tables. Do this for the elements you think provide valuable information. That way, people who use screen readers can access this information and get more precise context about the content.

What should you add as alternative text? In just a few words, describe the essentials of your images, icons, tables, or charts. This allows screen readers to convey the information properly.

  

How to add it:

1.  Click on the element you want.
    
2.  Click the menu with the **three vertical dots**, then click **Add alt text**.
    
3.  Enter the text. In some elements like tables, you’ll be able to add a title; in others, you can add a description (max. 125 characters).
    
4.  Done! You can continue editing your creation.
    
5.  If it’s an image, you can also **generate the alt text with AI**. You can do this from the AI options or from the Accessibility menu.

### **2\. Add Descriptions to Link-Type Interactivities**

If you add a link-type interactivity, also include a short description (max. 125 characters) of the destination. Example: “My company’s website.”

This information will be read by screen readers. Follow these steps to add it:

1.  Click on the desired element (or one that already has a Link interactivity).
    
2.  Enable the option **Enable accessibility**.
    
3.  Enter the text (max. 125 characters).
    
4.  Click **Save**.

### **3\. Use Different Text Categories (Title, Subtitle, Lists, …)**

The **text hierarchy** makes it easier to understand the structure—both visually (through different sizes and styles, etc.) and with **screen readers**, which announce the category as well as the content.

These hierarchies are already assigned in the different text types you can add from the left-side menu. For example, if you add a “Subtitle” from that menu, screen readers will interpret it as a subtitle; if you add a paragraph, they’ll interpret it as a paragraph, and so on. You can also click the accessibility icon to open a dropdown and assign another hierarchy to the text box you’ve selected.

### **4\. Arrange elements to define the reading order**

The screen reader will read the text and alt text following the **reading order you set**. This doesn’t affect the order in which you added elements to your genially — it only applies to screen readers.

1.  Open the **Accessibility** menu from your genially options.
    
2.  Arrange the elements from top to bottom. Place what should be read first at the top and what should be read last at the bottom.

### **5\. Enlarge Content in the Viewer**

To improve the experience for people with **visual impairments**, you can enable the **“Enlarge”** feature, which allows content to be increased up to **200% of its original size**. Anyone viewing your Genially can zoom in or return to normal size at any time.

How to enable this feature:

1.  Open the editor of your Genially.
    
2.  Click the top left menu and select **Preferences**.
    
3.  In the **Viewing** tab, enable the option **Enable zoom**.
    

  

## **More Accessibility Tips**

Here are some other recommendations to make your Geniallys even more accessible:

*   **Audio.**  
    Transcripts make audio accessible for people with hearing difficulties. You can add a text below your audio that says something like “Click here to read the audio transcript.” [**Add a window-type interactivity**](https://help.genial.ly/how-to-create-windows-in-genially-SkEpA0QUn) to that text and paste the transcript in the window. Done!
    
*   **Avoid using color as the only way to convey information.**  
    People with vision difficulties could miss part of your message.
    
*   **Ensure enough contrast between text and background colors.**  
    The greater the contrast, the more people will be able to see the content.
    
*   **Use easy-to-read fonts** in a suitable size. For example, the Opendyslexic font makes your text easier to read.
    
*   **Avoid animations or page transitions** if your audience includes people with photosensitivity.
    
*   **You can also create an audio summary of your genially with AI, so anyone can access the information.**
